Increasing productivity is the most common problem for anyone who works as a freelancer in front of a computer.
And sometimes it seems very complicated to organize yourself at the same time as arriving on time to fulfill the jobs and the clients you have obtained.
For this reason, today we want to give you a series of tips that will help you increase your productivity on a day-to-day basis.
Here we go!
#1 Set a schedule
We know that one of the reasons you started freelancing was to have flexible hours. However, that does not mean that you should not comply with a work schedule.
It has been shown that the first hours of the day are those in which our concentration is most powerful, while the afternoon hours, after lunch, are the most lazy.
Try to set a schedule.
This way you will know in advance that you will also enjoy free time at some point during the day and run away from any distractions in your work schedule.
#2 Take breaks
Although sitting in front of the computer does not seem like a very tiring job, the reality is that it is mentally exhausting.
That means that in order to stay cool you should take a break to stretch your legs, your back or just drink water.
Do you know the pomodoro technique?
According to this technique, working intensively for short periods of time allows you to increase productivity.
It consists of working at full capacity for 25 minutes to rest for another 5, in which you can make a coffee, go to the bathroom… whatever you want! This completes a pomodoro.
#3 Put on great music
Working in the strictest silence can cause even the most insignificant sound to bother you. If, on the other hand, you get used to working with background music, you will not be surprised by unexpected noises.
Our recommendation is that you bet on classical music or whatever makes you feel comfortable. Piano, folk… you can even search for spotify playlists that aim to promote concentration.
#4 Surround yourself with professionals
Working from home is the main benefit of being self-employed, but there may come a time when you feel like you need to separate work from home.
Coworking decides who you work with
Having a coworking space in which to surround yourself with other professionals will motivate you to work hard because you will catch on from the rest. And not only for that: the fact of having to pay for a workspace will also force you to focus on your tasks.
And who knows. Perhaps among all these professionals you can strengthen ties that suppose a labor benefit in the not too distant future.
#5 Every day, a task
Being a freelancer, you have many other things to do besides work.
You have to keep your accounting up to date, send invoices, answer emails, etc. Try to group these activities to avoid jumping from one activity to another without stopping.
Imagine that you are working and you see that you have just received an email. Do you respond immediately by dropping everything you’re doing and losing that focus, or do you leave it for later?
Exactly. If you accumulate all your emails to answer them at the same time, you will be much more productive in that task. Moreover, you can pick a day to send invoices or manage any other paperwork for your business.
In order to increase your productivity at work you have to assign a certain time to each task.
By having a higher level of concentration, the results will inevitably be better.
You are the owner of your time
When you started your adventure as a freelancer, you rubbed your hands thinking that it would be great to be your own boss and be able to enjoy the flexibility of work. But at this point you may wonder if it was better to work in an office from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
And it is that being the owner of one’s own time is more complicated than it seems; If your salary at the end of the month is going to depend on how productive you are on a day-to-day basis, then things get serious.
Increasing productivity in your work as a freelancer is possible. You just need to start applying these tips and see which of them help you organize yourself on a day-to-day basis.
Go for it!
